The 48-hour shortlist and the two-week onboarding

Ten working days from acceptance to a merged pull request. The timeline below is what we commit to in the contract, and the reason it holds is that verification and paperwork run in parallel with technical onboarding rather than after it.

How fast this actually moves

We produce a shortlist of two to three matched engineers per role within 48 hours of an agreed brief, because we shortlist from our existing bench and pipeline rather than starting a recruitment process. From your acceptance, first commit lands within 10 working days: contracting and verification in days one to three, access and environment in days three to six, codebase onboarding and a first small ticket in days six to ten.

  1. Role brief call, 45 minutes

    Not a job description. We want the codebase and stack, the team shape they are joining, the first three tickets they would pick up, your definition of done, your ceremony calendar, and the seniority you actually need rather than the one on the requisition. Most briefs get corrected during this call, usually downwards on seniority and upwards on domain context.

  2. Shortlist within 48 hours

    Two to three profiles per role. Each comes with a technical summary written by the engineer who screened them, a code sample or repository walkthrough, the scores from our own assessment stages, availability date, and an honest note on where they are weaker. We would rather send two strong profiles than five padded ones.

    You interview whoever you want, however you want: pairing session, system design, take-home, your existing loop. We do not gate this or coach candidates on your process. You have an unconditional right to reject, and we reshortlist at no cost.

    Work order signed against the master services agreement. Background verification completed or refreshed. Individual NDA and IP assignment executed. Your own supplier onboarding, security questionnaire and any client-specific training scheduled. This runs in parallel with the next step, not before it.

Indicative monthly rates in USD for full-time dedicated capacity, roughly 168 hours per month. All-inclusive: salary, statutory employment costs, benefits, equipment, connectivity, workspace, standard tooling licences, recruitment and management overhead. These are indicative bands, not a price list. The final rate depends on the specific stack, the domain context required, contract length and team size. Commitments of 12 months or more, and teams of five or more, attract a discount of 5 to 12 percent. A delivery lead is included at no charge on teams of five or more, so on a six-person squad the effective per-engineer rate is lower than the table suggests.

What is in the rate, and what is not

Included: gross salary, employer statutory contributions under Indian law, health insurance and benefits, annual leave, laptop and peripherals, redundant internet and power at the office, desk and workspace, standard tooling licences on our side, recruitment cost, HR and payroll administration, training budget, and our management overhead and margin.

Not included: licences for your proprietary tooling seats, travel and accommodation if you ask us to visit, work outside the committed overlap window where it needs a shift allowance, and any client-mandated certification or training you require beyond our standard.

On rate benchmarking

You will find quotes 30 to 40 percent below these bands. They are real quotes, and they are usually one of four things: contractors rather than employees, engineers shared across two or three accounts, a seniority label inflated by one band, or a rate that has stripped out the delivery management the engagement will need anyway. The comparison worth making is cost per shipped increment over six months, not cost per seat in month one.

Stage 4 has a high pass rate because stage 3 has already removed most of the people who would fail it. The stage worth arguing about is stage 5. We reject technically strong engineers on written communication, because on overseas delivery an engineer who cannot write a clear asynchronous update generates more cost than their code saves.

Background verification and paperwork

  • Identity. Government photo identity verified against the original document, plus permanent and current address confirmation.
  • Education. Highest qualification verified with the awarding institution or through an accredited verification agency.
  • Employment history. Previous two employers contacted directly for dates, role and exit reason. Gaps of over three months are discussed rather than ignored.
  • Criminal record check through a licensed Indian verification agency.
  • Individual NDA naming you as a beneficiary, executed before any access is granted.
  • Individual IP assignment assigning work product to you on creation.
  • Conflict declaration covering side work and competing engagements. Undeclared outside work is a termination matter.
  • Client-specific requirements such as your own security training, drug screening where legally permitted, or enhanced checks, arranged at your cost and with the candidate's consent.

Verification reports are shared with you on request, redacted for personal data we are not permitted to disclose under the DPDP Act.

Equipment, connectivity and workspace

  • Hardware. Company-issued laptops, typically 16 GB memory minimum and 32 GB for data and ML roles, with full-disk encryption enforced and no local administrator rights by default. Dual monitors and a headset as standard.
  • Endpoint management. MDM enrolment, disk encryption, screen lock policy, patch compliance and endpoint detection. We can enrol into your MDM instead of ours where your policy requires it.
  • Connectivity. Two independent leased-line providers at each hub with automatic failover, plus a diesel generator and UPS. Dehradun has occasional grid interruptions, which is precisely why this is engineered rather than assumed.
  • Workspace. Assigned desks in our own premises, not a shared coworking arrangement. Meeting rooms with dedicated video conferencing for your ceremonies.
  • Remote work. Default is office-based, because network, physical security and collaboration are all better. Approved hybrid arrangements are possible with client consent and a VDI or bastion path for any regulated data.
  • Access control. Badge entry, visitor logging, CCTV on entry points, and clean-desk policy in areas handling client data. Dedicated segregated zones available for ODC and regulated engagements.

Where we fit

A freelancer is cheapest per hour and carries no continuity or replacement guarantee. A recruitment agency gives you an employee and a one-off fee, with 8 to 16 weeks to hire and all employment risk on you. We are genuinely the wrong choice in two of these columns. If a role is permanently core and you want it in your building, hire it locally. If you need audit indemnity at board level for a regulated programme of hundreds of people, a large consultancy carries insurance and legal structure we do not.

The commitments that matter

The roster is named in the contract with a 90-day no-swap commitment, then 30 days written notice for any change. If an engineer is not performing we replace them within 10 working days at our cost, with a two-week overlap between outgoing and incoming engineer that we pay for. Committed daily overlap is stated per market as clock times in both time zones.

The 90-day no-swap commitment and replacement policy

  • Named roster in the contract. Each engineer named with role, seniority band and start date. Not "a mid-level backend engineer" but a person.
  • Ninety days without rotation. We will not move a named engineer off your account for the first 90 days for any reason inside our control. After that, 30 days written notice with a named successor and an overlap plan.
  • Replacement at our cost. If you are not satisfied with an engineer's performance, tell us. Replacement within 10 working days, and the two-week overlap between outgoing and incoming engineer is paid by us, not billed to you. You never pay for the same seat twice.
  • The 30-day no-fault window. In the first 30 days you can reject an engineer for any reason including a simple team-fit judgement, with no cost and no discussion required.
  • Attrition is our risk, not yours. If an engineer resigns, the replacement, the overlap and the context loss are our cost. We ask for a 60-day notice period from engineers on client accounts specifically so the overlap is real.
  • What we cannot promise. Nobody can guarantee zero attrition. Our engineer attrition runs below 9 percent annually, which means on a team of eight over two years you should expect roughly one departure. We plan for it with documented context and paired ownership rather than pretending it will not happen.

How you manage the team

  • Your tooling. Jira or Linear, Confluence or Notion, Slack or Teams, GitHub, GitLab or Azure DevOps. We work in your instances, not ours. There is no Redcubical portal you have to log into and no separate status system to reconcile.
  • Your ceremonies. Your stand-up time, your sprint length, your planning and refinement sessions, your retrospective format. If you run a two-week cadence with Thursday demos, so do we.
  • Your definition of done. We adopt it as written. If you do not have one, we will propose the one from our delivery process as a starting point and you edit it. What we will not do is quietly operate a weaker standard than yours.
  • Your code review standards. Your engineers review our pull requests and ours review yours. Mixed review is the fastest way to transfer context in both directions.
  • Direct access. Your product owner and engineers talk to our engineers directly. No account manager in the middle, no request routed through a coordinator.
  • Where we add a layer. On teams of five or more we include a delivery lead who runs ceremonies, produces the weekly report, manages the overlap schedule and owns escalation. They work for you day to day. On smaller teams there is no such layer and no such charge.

Overlap is measured against your local business day and written into the work order as clock times in both time zones. For North American clients the standard pattern is a 13:30 to 22:00 IST shift, giving live overlap with the Eastern morning and the Pacific start of day. Extended shifts and split coverage are available where the work genuinely needs it, with a shift allowance disclosed in the rate.

How to fire us

Written on purpose, because a supplier who buries their exit terms is managing your perception rather than your risk.

  1. Send an email. Thirty days written notice to your engagement lead. No prescribed form, no termination committee, no notice-to-cure requirement first.
  2. Pay to the notice date. Fees for the notice period. No exit fee, no release fee, no penalty for early termination, no minimum-term clawback.
  3. Take the two-week handover. It sits inside the notice period at no extra cost: recorded walkthroughs of every subsystem our engineers touched, runbook review, credential and access inventory, and open work in progress documented to a hand-over-able state.
  4. Keep the question window. A named engineer, not a shared inbox, is available for questions for 30 days after the last working day. Extendable at standard rates if your incoming team needs longer.
  5. Hire them if you want. After 12 months of engagement, you may make a direct offer to any engineer on your account with a transfer fee of one month of their contracted rate. Before 12 months the fee is three months. We would rather be transparent about the number than pretend a non-solicitation clause protects anybody's interests but ours.

Staff augmentation does not fix a management problem

When more hands is the wrong answer

Adding engineers multiplies whatever your delivery system already does. If requirements arrive half-formed, priorities change mid-sprint, and nobody owns a decision, then six more engineers will produce six times the confusion, faster. Extra hands solve a capacity problem. They make an ownership problem worse, because they increase the coordination load on the person who is already the bottleneck.

Warning signs that you need a delivery partner, not more hands

If three or more of these are true, buying individual engineers will disappoint you. Buy an outcome instead: a pod with its own delivery lead, or fixed-scope and capped time and materials work under our engagement models, where we own the plan and are accountable for the result.

  • Your backlog is not ready one sprint ahead. Tickets get written the morning they are picked up. Engineers will idle or guess, and both are expensive.
  • Nobody can make a decision inside 48 hours. Every question escalates to one person who is in meetings. That person is your constraint, and hiring around them increases their queue.
  • There is no definition of done. "Done" means different things to the developer, the tester and the stakeholder, so work returns repeatedly and nobody can forecast anything.
  • Velocity has not improved with the last two hires. The classic signal that the constraint is coordination or review capacity, not typing capacity.
  • Your senior engineers spend more than half their time unblocking others. Adding juniors, onshore or offshore, will consume the remainder.
  • Releases are manual, infrequent and frightening. More parallel work increases merge conflict and release risk. Fix the pipeline before adding contributors.
  • Requirements arrive as a conversation and are never written down. This does not survive a time-zone boundary. It barely survives an office.
  • You are hiring to hit a date that was set without engineering input. Brooks was right and remains right. People added late to a late project make it later.

What we do when we see this

We say so on the brief call, before a contract exists. In practice that means one of three recommendations, each of which is worth less revenue to us than the augmentation you asked for.

  • Fewer, more senior engineers. Two seniors who need no supervision beat five mid-level engineers who need daily direction, when your management bandwidth is the constraint. It is also a smaller invoice.
  • A pod with a delivery lead instead of individuals. The lead absorbs the coordination load rather than adding to it, and takes the backlog-readiness problem on with your product owner.
  • A two-week delivery assessment first. Fixed fee. We look at your pipeline, backlog hygiene, review latency, environment strategy and release process, and give you a written plan. Sometimes the finding is that you need three engineers rather than eight, and sometimes it is that you need none for another quarter.

How quickly can we get engineers started?

A shortlist of two to three matched engineers per role within 48 hours of an agreed role brief, interviews inside a week, and first commit on your codebase within 10 working days of acceptance. The 10 days cover contracting, background verification, NDA and IP execution, access provisioning and codebase onboarding.

What does a dedicated offshore engineer cost per month?

Indicative monthly rates run from USD 4,200 for a junior QA automation engineer to USD 11,500 for a senior solution architect, for full-time dedicated capacity. A mid-level full-stack engineer is around USD 6,800 per month. Rates include equipment, connectivity, workspace, standard licences, statutory employment costs and management overhead.

Can we interview and reject candidates?

Yes, and you should. Every shortlisted engineer is available for a technical interview with your team, and you have an unconditional right to reject. We keep shortlisting until you are satisfied at no additional cost. If we cannot fill a role to your standard we say so rather than sending a weaker profile.

What happens if an engineer is not working out?

Tell us inside the first 30 days and we replace them at our cost, with a two-week overlap between outgoing and incoming engineer that we pay for. After 30 days the same replacement process applies with 10 working days notice. You are never billed twice for the same seat during an overlap.

Do the engineers work only on our project?

Yes. Dedicated means dedicated: one client, one backlog, full-time. They are not shared across accounts and they are not pulled onto internal work. The roster is named in the contract with a 90-day no-swap commitment.

How much daily overlap do we get with our time zone?

It depends on your market and it is written into the contract. UK clients get around seven hours, Gulf and Singapore clients seven to eight, continental Europe six and a half, North America four and a half to five, and Australia five. Stand-ups, demos and escalation all sit inside that window.

Who manages the engineers day to day?

You do, on technical direction and priorities. We manage employment, performance, career progression and retention. On teams of five or more we include a delivery lead at no extra charge to handle ceremony facilitation, reporting and escalation, so your engineering manager is not absorbing coordination overhead.

How do we end the arrangement?

Thirty days written notice by email to your engagement lead. No exit fee, no release fee, no penalty. The notice period includes a two-week structured handover with recorded walkthroughs and a runbook review, and a named engineer stays available for questions for 30 days after the last day.
